About us

Hi, I'm Michael, the founder behind TheOpenPresenter.

In 2023 I started building this to serve small churches like ours better. We wanted the setup to be easy and for anyone to be able to run it straight from their phones.

Since then, it has grown to rival and even surpass giants like ProPresenter in some aspects. All the while keeping it open-source and easy to use.

How it started

  1. 2023

It started with our own church

Hope Newcastle meets in a rented space. Every Sunday we set everything up and pack it all away again. There's no booth at the back and it doesn't make sense to set it up.

We wanted to run the screen from wherever we were standing, on whatever device was in our hand. Nothing we tried did that well, so I started building it.

  2. Soon after

    Then we forgot the laptop

Not long after, we did a workshop and forgot to bring a laptop. There was a TV but we had no way of getting our slides to it. This should be something easy.

So that became a goal too. Any device you have like a phone or a TV stick should be all you need.

  3. Today

Now other churches use it too

What started as a tool for one church now has lyrics, slides, bibles, music, chords for the band and a desktop app. It's still open-source.

Today, churches all over the world use it for their main service, lobby display, and kids ministry.

What we care about

Built for small churches

Most church software assumes a booth and a trained operator. We build for volunteers that are short on time and manpower.

Open, so you're never stuck

Everything is open-source under AGPL 3.0. You can read the code, run it on your own server, and nobody can take it away from you.

Shaped by the people who use it

Emails come to us, not a call centre. A lot of what we've built started as a message from a church that wanted something.

Come and say hi

Tell us how you run your Sunday, what's annoying you, or what you'd like us to build next. I will personally read every message you send.
